Amber Stones

Amber is a fossilised resin produced by trees / plants that can be hundreds of years old – it is a natural process and a natural product. Amber, although gem like, is actually a mineral.

As the “resin” grows older, it hardens into a sort of plastic, and mellows into a golden or brown/orange colour “stone” known as Amber. The clearer the resin, the more perfect the colour, Amber is considered a gemstone, an organic gemstone which is generated from mother nature’s processes.

Amber perfectly preserves insects from decomposing, even soft tissue is preserved. Mosquitoes have been known to still have the blood of their victims inside them. It is no surprise then that Amber represents eternity

Countries in the Mediterranean have been making and trading in Amber jewellery as far back as 2500 BC. It was widely used at this time because as a resin, it is softer and easier to work with their primitive tools and much easy to shape and manipulate than other, much harder, gemstones such as diamonds, ruby’s etc. Once shaped and polished the amber is usually set in gold & silver jewellery
